Art on Street

I met Peeraphat at JJ market, I was very interested in his Buddha painting in his shop. He told that he sold 3 paintings that day, 65,000 Bath each. I was really amazed so I asked him; as if his painting could not be sold, did he still paint it? He gave the answer that increasingly my interested to his thought, he told me that he makes art with his heart and even if no one buys the paintings, it is not the reason to stop. His art works never tag a certain price, it is up to the conversation between the buyer and him, even one bath, and he would not hesitate to sell it. So I bought the Buddha image for one bath to challenge him and leave the painting at his shop to prove his honest. 3 – 4 months later, I came back to his shop and found that painting was still waiting for me with a sold tag. He told me that many people want to buy this painting but he could not sell it because it is already belong to me. So I asked him to sale it and give the money back to me but he still refused. I left the painting there for several months to test him again. Eventually he decided to send it to me at Chiang Mai.

Thereafter Peeraphat was invited to exhibit his painting at a gallery in Bangkok. I went there to see the exhibition by his invitation. At the exhibition, there was a painting that very attracting me, “Faithful of Silpa Bhirasri” with a tag “gives away for free with a pleased conversation” he told me that whoever makes a pleased conversation with him, he will give this one for free. I was notice that Bobby painted this portrait of Silpa Bhirasri by chipped a part of the face. So I asked him, why did you paint like that? He confessed to me that he could not paint the nose rise up like the face of westerner, so he erased a part of the face to make the nose risen up. I was very impressed with how he solved the problem then I asked him to exchange his painting with one of my art work because I do not want to take advantage from him, I just bought his painting for one bath. He did not hesitate to give this painting to me but he refused my offered because he wanted to give this painting for free, it was not his first intention to do the exchange. I was very impressed with his honest and constantly.

However Peeraphat has never studied in any art school but he graduated 15th grad. from elder school. He makes me very impressive not only in his art work but with his thought and his heart that sincerely making art. The value price has never been considered as the value for his art, but it is precious with a heart of the artist who making art with loves.

ผมได้เจอกับพีรพัฒน์ที่สวนจตุจักร เห็นรูปพระที่เขาเขียนดูน่าสนใจเลยได้สนทนาทำความรู้จักกัน เขาเล่าให้ฟังว่าวันนั้นเขาขายรูปพระไป 3 รูป ในราคารูปละ 65,000 บาท ผมเกิดความรู้สึกทึ่ง จึงถามเขาว่า ถ้าหากงานของเขาขายไม่ได้ยังจะเขียนรูปพระต่อหรือไม่ เขาทำให้ผมสนใจในตัวเขามากยิ่งขึ้นเมื่อเขาตอบว่า เขาทำงานศิลปะด้วยใจ การที่รูปขายได้หรือไม่นั้นไม่ใช่เหตุผลที่เขาจะหยุดเขียนรูป งานของเขาไม่มีการตั้งราคาที่แน่นอน หากบทสนทนาในงานศิลปะนั้นสามารถซื้อใจเขาได้ แม้บาทเดียวเขาก็จะขายอย่างไม่ลังเล ผมลองใจเขาด้วยการตกลงซื้องานชิ้นนี้ด้วยราคาบาทเดียว และพิสูจน์เขาโดยฝากงานชิ้นนี้ไว้ที่ร้านอยู่ 3 – 4 เดือน เมื่อผมกลับไปที่ร้านอีกครั้งรูปเขียนนั้นยังคงรอผมอยู่ที่เดิมพร้อมกับติดป้ายว่าถูกขายแล้ว เขาบอกว่ามีคนมาติดต่อขอซื้อรูปนี้อยู่หลายคน แต่เขาไม่ขายเพราะมันเป็นของผมไปแล้ว ผมบอกให้เขาขายไปเสีย แล้วเอาเงินให้ผม แต่เขาปฏิเสธข้อเสนอนี้ ผมยังคงฝากงานไว้ที่ร้านเหมือนเดิมอีกหลายเดือนเพื่อลองใจเขา เขาจึงตัดสินใจส่งงานชิ้นนี้มาให้ผมที่เชียงใหม่

หลังจากนั้นมีแกลเลอรี่แห่งหนึ่งติดต่อให้พีรพัฒน์แสดงงาน ผมเดินทางไปชมตามคำเชิญของเขา ในนิทรรศการมีงานอยู่ชิ้นหนึ่งชื่อว่า “ศรัทธา อาจารย์ศิลป์
พีระศรี” ซึ่งป้ายราคาติดไว้ว่า “ถูกใจให้ฟรี ” เขาบอกกับผมว่าหากใครคุยกับเขา แล้วทำให้เขาถูกใจได้ เขาจะให้ภาพนั้นฟรี ผมสังเกตเห็นเขาเขียนภาพนี้โดยแหว่งบางส่วนของใบหน้าอาจารย์ศิลป์ ผมถามเขาว่าทำไมจึงเป็นเช่นนั้น เขาสารภาพว่าด้วยความที่เขาไม่สามารถวาดจมูกให้โด่งเป็นสันแบบโครงหน้าของชาวตะวันตกได้ เขาจึงลบส่วนหนึ่งของใบหน้าออกเพื่อให้โครงหน้าของอาจารย์ศิลป์มีจมูกที่โด่งเป็นสันขึ้นมา ทำให้ผมประทับใจในการแก้ไขจุดบกพร่องของเขามาก จึงเอ่ยปากขอแลกงานกับเขาเพราะผมไม่อยากได้งานของเขาฟรีด้วยความรู้สึกว่าจะเป็นการเอาเปรียบเขาเกินไปหลังจากที่ได้ซื้องานในราคาบาทเดียวไปแล้ว เขาให้เหตุผลว่าไม่เคยมีใครสังเกตและถามถึงภาพนี้ด้วยความสนใจอย่างที่ผมถาม เขาจึงยกงานชิ้นนี้ให้ผมอย่างไม่ลังเลใจ และปฏิเสธที่จะแลกงานกับผมด้วยเหตุผลว่า เขาตั้งใจจะให้งานนี้ฟรีๆ การแลกเปลี่ยนนั้นไม่ใช่ข้อตกลงที่เขาตั้งใจเอาไว้ ผมประทับใจในความแน่วแน่และความซื่อไม่ฉวยโอกาสของเขามาก

ถึงแม้ว่าพีรพัฒน์จะไม่เคยผ่านการเป็นนักเรียนศิลปะมาก่อนและด้วยความรู้เทียบเท่ามัธยมศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 3 จากโรงเรียนศึกษาผู้ใหญ่ แต่เขาทำให้ผมประทับใจ ไม่ใช่เพียงผลงานศิลปะ หากด้วยวิธีคิดและการทำงานศิลปะอย่างจริงใจของเขา การให้คุณค่าต่องานศิลปะที่ไม่ใช่เพียงตัวเลขของราคาขาย แต่สูงค่าด้วยราคาของจิตใจที่มีความรักในงานศิลปะอย่างแท้จริง
