31 century museum :Bangkok (Land of smiles)

I had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by Ajarn Kamin Lertchaiprasert at Pohchang Academy of Art, Bangkok.

The title of his lecture was “Silapa Luang Samai” (contemporary art) under the “31st Centu- ry Museum in Bangkok” Program. After his lecture was over, he and I crossed the road to have something to eat together. We discussed our impression with exchanging ideas with students in the lecture room. I told him about my recent experience, which was about an artist who I feel impressed with – Pi Amnaj Wachira- sut. I like his paintings and often visit his art studio on Tiwanond Road. Recently, Pi Amnaj has told me that he saved the life of a broken-wing pigeon by taking it to Kasetsart University Veterinary Teaching Hospital until its wings were completely healed. As it wasn’t able to fly yet, he kept it in a small room under his ele- vated house. The reason for keeping it in this room was the fact that he kept five stray cats at home. He feared that these cats would hurt this pigeon.

That time, Pi Amnaj was drawing a semi-abstract picture comprising pink and black colors and tiny dots. I said to him, “What is this painting about?” and “What do the small dots in this painting refer to?” He said he liked to exercise at a public park in Nonthaburi, where there is a small reservoir. One day, during twilight, when the sky was getting dark, he saw light from the occasional market opposite the reservoir. The little light penetrated the bushes. “Sometimes, life in the dark needs just little light, even from electric lamps from an occasional market. It’s a beautiful thing, though,” said Pi Amnaj . I told Ajarn Kamin about this story and I saw tears well up in his eyes. He said, “Everybody’s life just needs a small chance to make change.” Ajarn Kamin said this painting is qualified for “The 31st Century Museum” Program. He added that this paint- ing should be the prototype of the concept “Our body is a museum; our spirit is artwork.” I agreed with him, and this provided me with a better understanding about his idea. Ajarn Kamin proposed to buy this painting while he didn’t know yet what it looked like. He said the story about Pi Amnaj creates inspiration for giving chances to others with love and compassion.

แรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างสรรค์

ผมได้มีโอกาสไปร่วมฟังบรรยายโดยอาจารย์คามิน เลิศชัยประเสริฐ ที่วิทยาลัยเพาะช่าง หัวข้อ “ศิลปะล่วงสมัย” เกี่ยวกับโครงการ 31st Century Museum in Bangkok หลังจากการบรรยายสิ้นสุดลง ผมกับอาจารย์คามิน เดินข้าม ถนนไปทานอาหารด้วยกัน เราพูดคุยกันถึงเรื่องที่ประทับใจจากการแลกเปลี่ยนกับน้องๆ นักศึกษา ผมเล่าให้อาจารย์ฟัง เรื่อง ที่ผมไปประสบมา เป็นเรื่องของศิลปินคนหนึ่งที่ผมประทับใจ พี่อำนาจ วชิระสูตร ผมชอบงาน จิตรกรรมของพี่ อำนาจ และ มักจะแวะไปหาที่สตูดิโอแถวถนนติวานนท์อยู่เสมอ ครั้งล่าสุด แกเล่าให้ผม ฟังว่า แกพยายามจะเลิกเหล้า และ อยากรักษาสุขภาพเพื่อจะได้ทำงานสร้างสรรค์ เริ่มออกกำลังกาย โดยการไปเดิน วิ่ง ปั่นจักรยานที่สวนศาลากลาง นนทบุรี วันหนึ่งระหว่างปั่นจักรยานกลับบ้าน แกพบนกพิราบโดนรถชน นอนปีกหักอยู่กลางถนน แกปั่นผ่านไปแล้ว แต่ ก็ทนไม่ไหว วกกลับมาช่วยชีวิตนกตัวนั้น ทั้งๆ ที่ตัวเองยังมีภาระอยู่มาก แกพานกไปรักษาที่โรงพยาบาลสัตว์ มหาวิทยาลัย เกษตรศาสตร์ จนปีกหายดี แต่ยังบินไม่ได้ แกจึงต้องเลี้ยงนกตัวนี้เอาไว้ในห้องเล็กๆ ใต้ถุนบ้าน ที่ต้องขังเอาไว้เพราะแก ยังเลี้ยงแมวจรจัดเอาไว้ด้วย อีก 5 ตัว กลัวว่าแมวจะไปทำร้ายนกพิราบ ความรู้สึกสับสนระหว่าง เมตตาและความเห็น แก่ตัวเองนั้น เป็นความขัดแย้งอย่างรุนแรง ยังเอาตัว ไม่รอดยังจะไปช่วยคนอื่น หาภาระมาเพิ่มใส่ตัว ผู้คนจำนวนมาก เลือกที่จะเห็นแก่ตัว ซึ่งทำได้ง่าย

ที่สตูดิโอ พี่อำนาจกำลังวาดภาพอยู่ภาพหนึ่ง ซึ่งเป็นภาพกึ่งนามธรรม สีชมพูและสีดำ มีจุดสีเล็กๆ ในภาพ ผม

จึงถามแกว่า “นี่ภาพอะไรครับ? แล้วจุดสีเล็กๆ ในภาพนี้คืออะไร?” แกเล่าให้ฟังว่าแกชอบไปออกกำลังกายที่สวนสาธารณะ แถวเมืองนนท์ มีอ่างเก็บน้ำเล็กๆ ตอนโพล้เพล้ ท้องฟ้ากำลังมืดลง แกเห็นแสงไฟจากตลาดนัดที่อยู่ฝั่งตรงข้ามอ่างเก็บ น้ำ แสงเล็กๆ ลอดผ่านสุมทุมพุ่มไม้ ออกมา “บางครั้งชีวิตที่อยู่ในความมืดก็ต้องการเพียงแค่แสงเล็กๆ แม้จะเป็นแสง จากหลอดไฟตลาดนัด แต่มันก็เป็นสิ่งที่สวยงาม” พี่อำนาจเล่าให้ผมฟัง และผมก็เล่าเรื่องนี้ให้อาจารย์คามินฟัง ทั้งคน เล่าและคนฟังต่างน�้าตาคลอ อาจารย์พูดว่า “ชีวิตของเราทุกคนก็ต้องการเพียงแค่โอกาสเล็กๆ เท่านั้นที่จะทำให้เกิดการ เปลี่ยนแปลง” อาจารย์คามินบอกว่า ภาพนี้ของพี่อำนาจ เหมาะกับโครงการ 31stCentury Museum ที่นี่ ภาพนี้เป็นภาพ ที่เหมาะจะเป็นต้นแบบ ของแนวความคิด “ร่างกายของเราคือพิพิธภัณฑ์ จิตวิญญาณของเราคืองานศิลปะ” ผมเห็น คล้อยตามและทำให้ผมเริ่มเข้าใจความคิดของอาจารย์มากยิ่งขึ้น อาจารย์คามิน ขอซื้อภาพของพี่อำนาจ โดยที่ยังไม่ได้ เห็นว่าภาพนั้นมีหน้าตาอย่างไร อาจารย์บอกว่า เรื่องเล่าเกี่ยวกับพี่อำนาจ ได้สร้างแรงบันดาลใจในการหยิบยื่นโอกาส ให้กับคนอื่นๆ ด้วยความรัก และความเมตตา
