This documentary was filmed on the 16th of June, 2011. It is about the daily life of an old lady, Yai Sa, she is 79 years old. When I first met her, I was very impressed with her contentment and solitude. She leads a very simple and self-sustaining life. Her home is close to my studio. She has been living alone for 49 years since her husband’s death. She has two sons. The elder one unfortunately passed away long time ago. The younger one is working and living in the city and comes back for a short visit once a week, spending a few hours with her. She lives alone…

I feel that our society’s way of life these days, are highly enriched with materialism that aims for physical satisfaction. The new generations have been flooding into big cities for jobs and wages. This has changed families and former agricultural societies throughout the world. The elderly are left to live alone and tend to themselves. From conversing with Yai Sa, it has brought me the eternal truth about how we all are born alone out of emptiness and will die alone into emptiness. This truth is the way of nature that never changes.

I asked her, “Living alone, are you afraid of dying?”
She replied, “I’m not afraid of dying nor living.”
