My grandfather is just a villager, who grows rice. I got inspiration from him especially in religion. For him, he is his religion, that’s what he told me. He does not follow an ideology; he doesn’t have a god, but tries to be himself. He sets his own discipline. I don’t live my life as he does, but I get inspiration in another way. I don’t know, I’m just exploring.

Professor Pramuan Pengchan is my inspiration. He has never taught, never spoken in words of how I should live my life. Instead, he showed me by his action, he exhibited love for me to see without words. I felt, therefore I was free to choose ways to love others that suits me. Not just imitating his ways. Whenever I’m discouraged about how to love others, I will always remember the feelings and energy he gives out.

อาจารย์ประมวล เพ็งจันทร์เป็นแรงบันดาลใจในชีวิตเรา เพราะเขาไม่เคยสอน ไม่เคยพูดเป็นคำพูดว่าเราควรใช้ชีวิตอย่างไร แต่เขาทำให้ดู เขาแสดงถึงความรักให้เห็นโดยที่ไม่ต้องพูด เราจึงรู้สึกอิสระที่จะเลือกหนทางในการรักคนอื่นในแบบของเรา ไมใช่แค่ในแบบของอาจารย์ และทุกครั้งที่เราท้อว่าเราจะรักคนอื่นอย่างไร ก็จะนึกถึงอารมณ์และพลังงานที่เขาให้ออกมา

The person who inspire me is P.Ramlee, he’s from the 60s film-maker and a very good songwriter, composer, director and actor. For me, he’s an all in one artist, my inspiration. He’s already dead. His beautiful music and movies are evergreen, inspiring me to be like him, practically.

He’s born in Malaysia, in Penang. Then in early 60s, he moved to Singapore and worked as assistant director, mainly to Indian directors. Slowly he became the director. He’s very talented.

Everyone that came in my life, all was inspiration. Each of them with their pros and cons, but I chose only the good part of them to practice myself. I find it natural if I do not like them at first. But if only we pick their good parts, it would benefit ourselves in living our lives and forward the benefits to others.

My father is a man of his words. He is the one that’s constantly in my mind. Inspired by him, I live my life with veracity and keep my promises. Everything is a truth that we have to embrace, like what Mr.Kamin said. The Ultimate Truth, Conventional Truth. If we respect the truth, we will receive the truth.

จริง ๆ แล้ว ทุกคนที่ผ่านเข้ามาในชีวิต ล้วนเป็นแรงบันดาลใจ แต่ละคนมีข้อดีข้อเสีย แต่เราเอาข้อดีของเขามาใช้ ตอนแรกอาจไม่ชอบ มีเป็นธรรมดาทุกคน แต่เมื่อเราดึงข้อดีของเขามาใช้ มันจะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการดำเนินชีวิตของเรา และส่งต่อสิ่งดี ๆ ไปให้ผู้อื่น

โยมพ่อเป็นคนที่มีสัจจะ เป็นบุคคลที่อยู่ในใจเราเสมอ เราจึงดำเนินชีวิตด้วยสัจจะ รักษาสัญญา ทุกสิ่งคือความจริงที่เราจะต้องพบ อย่างที่คุณคามินเคยพูดอยตลอด ทั้งปรมัตสัจจะ สมมุติสัจจะ ซึ่งถ้าเราเคารพความจริง เราก็จะได้ความจริง

Sometimes I get inspired by David Lynch, the film-maker. In his movies, he shifts between different layers of ideas. It’s in the same time a little superficial and also very deep. I like how he gets in touch with the human feelings and how he can expose them.

If I were to choose just one person that completely inspires me in every way, there isn’t such one. For there really are many of them, each specific person would inspire me in their specific way. For example, my friend Ting would give me inspirations in a type of feeling. When I’m tired, she would have this warm feeling. Thinking positively, she would have a way of thinking that shows me what actually is.

When I’m in an environment really doesn’t suit me, it takes a lot of tolerance to cope with something so different. It is very pressuring, which possibly is also from within. I would feel upset, angry or sometimes sad. Ting would encourage me through words or thoughts that eases my feelings. These words or thoughts would let me reflect on myself, chipping away the rust that covers how we could really look at things. If we could always see things differently, it could make us happier.

ถ้าจะให้เลือกคนที่ให้แรงบันดาลใจที่สมบูรณ์ในคนๆเดียว ก็ไม่มีคนแบบนั้น เพราะมีหลายคนจริง ๆ แต่ละคนก็จะให้แรงบันดาลใจในแต่ละด้าน อย่างพี่ถิง เขาให้แรงบันดาลใจในเชิงความรู้สึก อย่างเวลาที่เราเหนื่อย พี่ถิงจะมีความรู้สึกที่อบอุ่นอยู่ พี่ถิงคิดในแง่บวกตลอด และจะมีแนวคิดที่บอกกับเราว่าอันที่จริงแล้วมันเป็นอย่างไร

เมื่อเราอยู่ในสังคมที่ไม่เหมาะกับตัวเอง เราต้องใช้ความอดทนอย่างสูงในการอยู่ในที่ ๆ มันต่างจากเรา มันเกิดความกดดันและแน่นอนมันมาจากภายในตัวเราเอง จึงย่อมมีความรู้สึกไม่พอใจ โกรธ หรือไม่สบายใจบ้าง ก็มีพี่ถิงที่คอยให้กำลังใจผ่านวิธีพูดหรือวิธีคิดที่ช่วยให้เรารู้สึกดีขึ้น มันทำให้เรามองกลับมาที่ตัวเอง ได้กลับมาเคาะสนิมที่เกาะการมองของเราอยู่ ว่าแท้จริงหากเรามองต่างไป มันก็อาจทำให้เรามีความสุขมากขึ้น

I don’t know his name. I encountered with him only for a few minutes. I was riding a horse deep in the bush in Botswana. My horse was semi-wild. We were riding one day through empty bush area, a place of low red bushes and sand. Suddenly, my horse stopped, and I knew my horse was completely alerted to something. I couldn’t see anything and why it stopped. I looked and looked around, but still couldn’t see anything. I suddenly noticed that just about 10 feet away from me, completely still; exactly the same color as the bushes and the sand was a man. He was absolutely still, staring at the horse and me. I knew he’d never seen anything like this in his life, because we were in an area where no outsiders ever went. So I suddenly understood from the way he was invisible, that he was completely at one with nature, with his entire world. He possessed that ability to physically disappear into nature. After exchanging glances with him for maybe two minutes, neither of us spoke. We were just both of us, in a state of complete astonishment and questioning ‘what is that?’ I felt I encountered a true wise man.

The inspiration in my life comes from an inventor called Tony Goss, he’s dead now. I stayed 3 years in London at his house together with his wife. This couple is very important, but Tony is special for me. He was brilliant. He was an inventor. He worked in a big factory with metal, and created the ‘Goss Cutter’. ‘Goss’ was his name and ‘Cutter’ was something he could cut pieces of metal very easily with just the hand. It was sold in the US and made quite a lot of money. He also invented many funny, almost crazy little things.

When the age of computer arrived in the 70s, he understood way before me of how the computer system would go in informatics. While I sort of pushed it away, not wanting to go there, he was the one really pushing me on. And he was so right, look how it is now. He understood the numeric system much more quicker than me who was young at that time. He was about 55 at that time and died 15 years later.

He influences me in his way of thinking, which is always surprising. He could do something that looks crazy, but when you think of it, it makes sense and that he’s not crazy. To me, he’s brilliant. He brings me up. He’s not the person in my life that stops me from thinking or evolutes. This man brought me up in a way, like a father.

แรงบันดาลใจของชีวิตผมมาจากนักประดิษฐ์ ชื่อ Tony Goss ซึ่งเสียชีวิตไปแล้ว ผมใช้ชีวิตที่บ้านเขาในลอนดอนอยู่ 3 ปี พร้อมกับภรรยาของเขา ความจริงทั้งคู่สำคัญ สำหรับผม แต่กับ Tony มากเป็นพิเศษ สำหรับผมแล้ว เขายอดเยี่ยมมาก เป็นนักสร้าง เขาทำงานเหล็กในโรงงานที่ใหญ่มาก และคิดค้นเครื่อง Goss Cutter มาจากชื่อของเขา เป็นอุปกรณ์ที่สามารถตัดเหล็กได้ด้วยมือได้อย่างง่ายดาย มันถูกนำไปขายที่อเมริกา ทำเงินให้เขาไปไม่น้อย เขาประดิษฐ์สิ่งเล็ก ๆ อีกหลายอย่าง ส่วนใหญ่เป็นของที่ตลกและดูบ้า ๆ

และเมื่อถึงยุค 70 ยุคแรก ๆ ของคอมพิวเตอร์ เขาเข้าใจก่อนหน้าผมไปไกลมาก ว่าระบบคอมพิวเตอร์จะไปต่อยังไงในด้านสนเทศศาสตร์ ในขณะที่ผมเหมือนจะคอยผลักออก ไม่อยากไปด้านนั้น แต่เขาก็ไม่ละเลิกที่จะผลักดันผมต่อ และเขาก็พูดถูก ดูตอนนี้สิ เขาเข้าใจระบบตัวเลข รวดเร็วกว่าผมซึ่งยังเด็กอยู่ในขณะนั้น ตอนนั้นเขาประมาณ 55 ปีและเสียชีวิต 15 ปีให้หลัง

อิทธิพลทางด้านความคิดของเขา น่าประหลาดใจเสมอ เขาอาจทำอะไรบางอย่างที่ดูบ้า แต่เมื่อเราคิดกับมัน ก็จะรู้สึกว่ามันสมเหตุสมผล ชายคนนี้ไม่ใช่คนบ้า สำหรับผมแล้วเขายอดเยี่ยม เขาไม่ใช่คนในชีวิตที่ผมเจอแล้วมาหยุดความคิด หรือฉุดรั้งวิวัฒณาการของชีวิตผม ชายผู้นี้เสมือนชุบเลี้ยงผม เหมือนเป็นพ่อ

The first person I can think of that inspires my way of life is my father. He’s working in computer, having a very simple life with my mother. They live in the countryside, have very simple jobs, they have a garden so they garden very often. I feel like me and my father evolve at the same time, and even if I’ve known him for a very long time since I was born, I feel we still connect. The more I live, the more I feel connected to him. Each time there’s something happening in my life, I feel he understands everything. I can talk to him very easily and he will understand my way of thinking. Everything that I want to do, he’s the person who supports me the most, meaning he understand what it is exactly that I wanted to do.

I met this kid many years ago. I didn’t know him. Though I saw his name in his wallet, but I can’t remember it. The fiffiirst time I met him, people was carrying him in, so I went in to help them clean his body and saw his watch on his wrist, it was still running. He was dead. There’s mud everywhere. He didn’t say anything to me, and I didn’t say anything to him. I think that was all of life, time still goes on all the time. Whether dead or alive, time still goes on. I think this is what’s important. That’s what he told me. He taught me something deep inside.
